Synopsis: A SIMPLE FAVOR, directed by Paul Feig, centers around Stephanie (Anna Kendrick), a mommy vlogger who seeks to uncover the truth behind Emily’s (Blake Lively) sudden disappearance from their small town.
My Thoughts: Before going into this movie, I had expectations that it was going to be a French-chic murder mystery from both watching the trailers and the poster art. And in some ways, it is, but that is not all it is. What we don’t see from the trailers is the type of person that Emily is behind the model-like image. From the initial interactions we see between Emily and Stephanie, we begin to suspect things are not quite what they seem from the outside and after her disappearance, those feelings are only heightened fed with the layers of deceit and lies uncovered by Stephanie. There are so many plot twists (some I could guess, some I could have never imagined) that you will be on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. In a case of who-done-it, Stephanie takes us on an unimaginable journey and we can only hope she gets out alive. I had been waiting months for this movie to come out and I was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out. I don’t think it has the same ending or follows the same story line as the book, but once I read it I will let you know how that compares.
My Rating: 4.5/5
Recommend?: Yes! Will warn you though, it starts off a little slow and uneventful, but gets interesting pretty quickly. There is a lot of profanity and talk of sex, but they do serve as some purpose for the plot, so if you can handle the language, you’ll enjoy the movie. Plus, there are a ton of funny little moments amongst the mystery and suspense.
