Synopsis: Journalist Eddie Brock is trying to take down Carlton Drake, the notorious and brilliant founder of the Life Foundation. While investigating one of Drake’s experiments, Eddie’s body merges with the alien Venom — leaving him with superhuman strength and power. Twisted, dark and fueled by rage, Venom tries to control the new and dangerous abilities that Eddie finds so intoxicating.

My Thoughts & Recommendation: I have been impatiently awaiting the day for Venom to come out and tonight I was not disappointed. I was happy to see they showed some of the inner dialogue that I wasn’t sure they’d portray. And the funny quips and one-liners tickled me pink. I was ever so slightly disappointed with the speed of the storytelling, however. There are times where the movie can get a little slow – not Indie movie slow, but slow for a Marvel action movie – and that threw me, personally, just a little bit. Also, there’s a part where the symbiote, Venom, comes to an understanding with Eddie Brock about being more-or-less a “good” guy and whole conversation was so quick it kind of made it unbelievable and unrealistic. Granted, I know this is a fictional character and universe, and no, it doesn’t need to be some whole explanation like Luis in Ant-Man, but there needed to be a little more content for it to be somewhat credible. That being said, I greatly enjoyed the movie. And for those of you Marvel fans like myself, Stan Lee does make an appearance and there are two end scenes (the second one having nothing to do with the first end scene or the movie, but is Marvel-based). As for recommendation, I’d recommend this to anyone who likes action, sci-fi, or superhero/comic movies, although Venom is no superhero. To put it loosely, he’s more of like a cross between Spider-Man and Deadpool (I know, wrong universe, but the jokes are reminiscent of his).

My Rating: 4/5
